Makeup for photos is a lot different than everyday makeup. When I ask, “how you want your makeup?” I feel like the most popular response I get out of my clients is, “Natural”. On occasion, I get the girls that want to have bold lips or flashy eyes, but overall most people want to look natural. So today I’m going to talk just a little about makeup for pictures. Whether it be for annual family photos, seniors, engagements, or wedding day; the makeup you choose to wear is important. In the post, you’ll find some of my tips for successful photo-ready makeup. The first thing you should know is that the camera downplays your makeup. So it is totally fine to go with your natural look, just amp it up a bit! You might feel like you look “different” or have on “lots of makeup”, but I promise you, it will look great in the pictures. The last thing you want in your photo is your face looking washed out.
My number one tip: wear false lashes! If you decide to do strip lashes or the individual extensions, you will be in love with the difference they make! I seriously feel naked without my lashes on. Another important thing is to define your eyebrows. I once heard someone say, “you wouldn’t hang a picture without a frame on the wall would you?” I laughed a little and realized how true that really is. Defined brows really do complete the look and make a perfect “frame” for your eyes. I always recommend wearing lip color. Gloss, stain, or lipstick, you choose. But always choose something with at least a little color to it. If you like nude lips, awesome! But I recommend something that is a couple shades darker than your natural lip. Eyeshadow. I know lots of people that prefer not to wear it. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with that.
My personal opinion for pictures is to wear some. When choosing eyeshadow colors pick a complementary color. For example, purple and cool tones tend to look amazing on brown eyes. It seems like the camera kind of washes out eyeshadow too, so don’t be afraid to use a little more than you would on a daily basis. Use blush, powder, bronzer, foundation, and highlighter to define your features. Makeup can be so intimidating, BUT it is also so much fun! Don’t be afraid to play around and see what combinations look good on you. (I wouldn’t suggest playing around on your picture day!) Also, there is always the option of hiring someone to do it for you! Experienced makeup artists are educated and know how to enhance natural beauty. Plus they take the stress out of the day. No need to worry about doing your own makeup! It really makes for such a relaxing and fun experience. Plus you might pick up a few tips/tricks along the way! All in all, it is totally fine to go with your natural/everyday look for pictures, just amp it up a bit!
